We were delighted to welcome Dr. Pauline Christmas to Inverurie last week to lead her 3-day course on the treatment of cerebral palsy in babies and children. Dr. Christmas, a consultant paediatric and research physiotherapist from Birmingham, created this internationally-renowned course over a decade ago to bridge the gap between research evidence and day-to-day clinical practice by translating evidence into meaningful, functional therapy. Evidence‑Based Practical Application (E-BPA) is an activity‑focused approach to therapeutic intervention and emphasises task‑focused, intensive, goal‑directed therapy that promotes active use. Thanks to the support of NHS Grampian charities, we were able to run this course for 22 of our physiotherapists, occupational therapists and therapy support workers working in child development teams across NHS Grampian and the feedback has been very positive, with all participants stating that they will be making changes to their practice thanks to the learning experience. We are committed to working with children and their families to offer the best service that we can and learning opportunities such as this can lead to improved functional outcomes for children with cerebral palsy, and related neurological conditions living in Grampian.
I have a variety of workshops and courses available for therapists, therapy assistants, educational staff and carers based on the Evidence-Based Practical Application approach.
This training aims to improve treatment outcomes for children with cerebral palsy. It uses the latest evidence in combination with clinical expertise to develop the practice knowledge of the clinician, improve clinical reasoning skills and enhance therapeutic intervention. The training consists of lectures and practical sessions which may include patient demonstrations, video analysis and case studies.
I have run courses around the UK and Ireland. If you are a physiotherapist or occupational therapist working with children with cerebral palsy and would be interested in bespoke training for your department, please make contact.
